Culinary Journey to the Mediterranean

DSCN7151 This is one of the many books I won from an online contest at Forgotten Bookmarks. There are many wonderful books which I have received so far, some old books, some in mint condition, it’s like Christmas for me! Oh wait…that’s coming up..yeah, Christmas with lots and lots of books 🙂 This book in particular is a gem.

56 easy recipes with the preparation and cooking times, lots of color photos and a very cool diagram of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid.

I don’t know why, but there have been people who think a Mediterranean diet means just adding olive oil, eating yogurt and drinking wine. No, my friends, it’s not that simple.
The idea is to have red meats and sweets just a few times a month.
Eggs poultry and fish a few times a week.

Under the daily header we have cheeses, yogurt, olive oil, fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts, breads, pastas, rice couscous, polenta and other grains.

(This would be the opposite of Adkins, am I right?) I personally don’t ever want to live without cheese and bread. A wonderful meal in itself.

Wine is noted to be enjoyed in moderation. Ok, I have a time with that one as I love wine. It doesn’t always love me but…generally worth it to me.

Recipes are primarily from France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, North Africa and Sicily. Rich soulful cuisine.

So far I have prepared Espana chicken, Pan-Fried Greek potatoes and Chocolate-Walnut Torte Caprese. All easy (well, the torta was challenging) and all delicious. I recommend this book for not only the recipes but the beauty of the photography and layout. Please find the recipes and more photos at Squirrel Head Manor.

Adding my review to Goodreads and Beth Fish Reads.
